Dr. Bufo graduated from Brown University in 1983 and received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. From 1987-1990 he served as a captain in the United States Air Force, providing dental care for retired and active duty service members and their families.
Between 1990 and 2003, Dr. Bufo created two successful dental practices in West Newfield and Springvale, ME that offered the latest in dental technologies, including digital radiography and lasers, esthetic restorative dentistry and non-surgical periodontal therapy. In 2004, he opened Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry & TMJ in Scarborough, ME, focusing on cosmetic dentistry, TMJ, neuromuscular dentistry, and complex occlusal and restorative procedures. In 2012 he merged his Scarborough practice into the current Brighton Dental Associates location in Portland and in 2015 became the owner of Windham Dental Associates in Windham Maine. He is an Invisalign Preferred Provider and focuses his practice on cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry, TMJ and difficult bite problems.
Dr. Bufo averages almost 100 hours of continuing education per year and was chosen to be a clinical instructor at the renowned Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). He travels to the Institute several times each year to teach dentists from across the globe about the most advanced cosmetic dentistry procedures and therapy for TMJ disorders. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association, the International Association of Physiologic Aesthetics, and the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics.
Dr. Emily Nelson graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2001. She graduated from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2009. After dental school Dr. Nelson practiced in Boston, Ma. at Whittier Street Health Center before moving to Maine in 2012 to practice with Dr. Byron Escoe. In October 2015 she began working at Brighton Dental. Dr. Nelson enjoys all aspects of general dentistry. Her post-doctoral practice has emphasized training in oral surgery, fixed and removable prosthodontics. Dr. Nelson is certified in Invisalign and strives to restore every patients smile to optimal health. In her free time Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She loves being outdoors, swimming, yoga and traveling.
Dr. Michelle Beaulieu is the newest addition to Brighton Dental Associates. Dr. Beaulieu graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in biochemistry. She received her doctorate of dental medicine from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and completed a general practice residency at Hackensack University Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Beaulieu joined a private practice in Secaucus, New Jersey before returning to her home state of Maine in 2016. Dr. Beaulieu enjoys working with patients and seeing them smile after their dental work is completed. She is committed to helping patients maintain their oral health as an integral part of sustaining overall health and well-being. Dr. Beaulieu has a passion for creating art, which influences the attention to detail and esthetic value she brings to all of her procedures and patients. Her other interests include gardening, animals, and being in the outdoors. Dr. Beaulieu is a member of the Maine Dental Association, Maine Academy of General Dentistry and is Invisalign certified.
